After my walkabout, the four of us (Maggie, Rex, Alexander - an internet contact from pentaxforum.com living in Istanbul, and I) went to the Blue Mosque. The Mosque was erected in the early 1600's and is located opposite from Aya Sofia on the Hippodrome Promenade.
The interior of the Blue Mosque was so impressive, the column and arches spanned impossibly upwards, slightly shouded from view by the supports for the hundreds of lights seemingly suspended mere feet above your head.
Alexander led us through the mass of humanity (known as tourists) parked along a fence to the interior of the mosque. He explained to security that we were relatives from the states and he was going to show us where he prayed at the mosque. Maggie was not allowed past the fence as a woman may distract the praying men from their duties.
We walked around the perimeter of the Blue Mosque to the gilded Minber - a steep layer of steps where the Imam would ascend to present the Friday prayers.

Dave,
Sometimes they allow women to see interior of mosque. I hope next time they will allow Maggie to see it.I will ask Emine to get permission.
