Off to the "Sugar Shack" located underneath the South Block. This was a large open room in the basement that served as an indoor recreation center for inmates, and had the reputation for being a hot spot for hauntings. One of the spirits was named "Jasper Whi__" according to a psychic.
In this area, two EVPs were recorded by Todd with M.A.J.D.A - an paranormal investigation organization. Essentially, to record an EVP, one lays a tape recorder in the room and asks questions while people around him try not to laugh. His two EVPs said "Get out!" and "Come meet the devil". Quite stereotypical.
We descend the stairwell into the basement and are greeted by warm air and a faux blood stained wall that served as Hannibal Lecter's pen during the recent Haunted Prison tour. When we turn the corner, there is no light and props are placed in the room. As in the cafeteria, a weird feeling sets in. We talked a bit and decide to record our own EVP.
This is a (frozen) Peggy in the Sugar Shack. See the two glowing circles above and below the "G" to Peggy's left. Those are "orbs" - indicators of ghostly energy, and are key in identifying ghostly activity. I'd rather refer to them as "dust".
I set the camera on a prop, and turn back towards the girls. As soon as I turn, something pokes me in the temple on the right side of my head. It felt as though a finger went directly into my head - yet I didn't run into anything *yes, that's not normal either*. Later, when reviewing the recording, we saw something that I could not identify. About 10 seconds into the movie, there is a white trailing object that runs up the left side of the screen. It isn't a flashlight or reflection, nor a bug. I cannot explain what it is or it's origin - but it happened about 20 seconds prior to me being hit in the head by something else I cannot put my finger on.
After a quick warming up break punctuated by Red Bull and Diet Mountain Dew, we went back
towards the South Block. We made our way to the Honors Block that housed the more well behaved prisoners. Those housed in the South Block were allowed more freedom than those in the North Block. Several of the cells in the South Block were painted or tagged by the prisoners, and the markings still exist despite peeling paint and tourists.We stopped for pictures along the way inside the cells:
We leave the honor block and proceed towards the gymnasium located at the end of the South Block. Before we do, we had this little exchange caught on tape:
Dave: (after farting) Oops, the ghosts are making themselves known.
Maggie: The ghost of Quaker Steak and Lube.
Dave: The ghosts of some chickens.
Peggy: Was that ghostly or ghastly?
Maggie: Or gassly?

What Dave left out of the "Suga Shack" description is the "art on the walls. In the photo of Mom, it says Cougars behind her, as in WestVirginia Cougars. There is other art on the wall, but the creepiest "art" is not original. In the late 90's or early 2000's MTV filmed "Fear" at the prison and painted these winged-man like pix on the walls of SugarShack, Dave and I recongnized them from a show we'd seen years ago.
