On Friday night, Laurence and Rex joined Maggie, her mom Peggy, and myself at the Claddaugh north. During the course of conversation, Rex mentioned if anyone saw the Katrina aftermath picture of a guy pushing his woman (wife? girlfriend?) on a plank of wood through the flood waters. Next to her was a case of Red Dog. From there, the discussion of survival followed by bad beer ensued. At one point, the server checked on us to see if we needed more beer.
Laurence- "You by chance don't serve Red Dog, do you?"
Server - "That's a bit to lowbrow for us here."
here's a second rating:
Red DogRating: 1.5 out of 5
Red Dog, back in the day this stuff was advertised as the beer for cool people. Now, it is the beer for winos and losers. It isn't bad. It isn't good. It is one of the least impressive beers in all the world, it claims to be Uncommonly Smooth but it matters little how smooth it is, because it is actually related to the Crown Prince of hangover beers Icehouse. While Red Dog's hangover isn't as bad, the mere thought of how closely related to the prince of hangovers just isn't appetizing. (For those wondering, Natural Ice is the King of hangovers producing a hangover before you have buzz 90% of the time.)
Red Dog is not bad, it has plenty of flavor and is fairly smooth, but it is not very distinctive. It doesn't have anything that jumps out at your taste buds and screams you are now a Red Dog man! I suggest that as an occasional cheap beer, and it is cheap I picked it up for $3.99 a sixer at a convenience store, it is quite good for a break from your regular brewsky.
I can't review this beer without mentioning that for years there has been a lame rumor that Batman is eating a chick out on the cap, if you turn it upside down. This is not true, unless of course you have met ladies with buttholes bigger than their heads. Nonsense.

I think the exact quote from the server was, "That's a bit too highbrow for us here."
Note the playful sarcasm ...
